It was at one stage recognised as the world's hottest pepper and was believed to have aquired the name "Ghost" because of the somewhat milky colour the just-ripe pepper assumes, which differentiaties it from other peppers. Although often associated with Hungarian cuisine, paprika (referred to as a Pimjenton by the Spanish) originated in Mexico before being brought to Soin in the 16th century.
